THE JOURNEY BEGINS
In the Spiti Valley, the day started at 5 am for DJ, but he spent admiring the place and got ready to leave Dolma homestay 2 hours later. His first trip was to Langza where he met a South Indian family based out of New Delhi. One member of this family was from the USA and was visibly impressed by DJ’s solo ride, and though the family was traveling in a Toyota Innova, this guy had rented a Pulsar from Kaza.
1. LANGZA
Langza is a beautiful village with a small population of about 200. Apart from the valley’s spellbinding beauty, one can also check out a large Buddha statue here. DJ explored the place a bit, clicked pictures, and then started his journey towards Komic village.
2. KOMIC
Komic is recognized as the world’s highest motorable village. This village is even smaller than Langza, with only 50 people. It is the highest inhabited area and everything here is at the greatest height in the world, such as:
- World’s highest restaurant
- The world’s highest homestay
3. HIKKIM
After Komic, it was time for DJ to move towards Hikkim. This village boasts of having the world’s highest post office. DJ enquired here and was pleasantly surprised to know that post was still being sent every day from here to Kaza. From Kaza, the post is distributed to the mailing address. Currently, this post office is being used to send postcards to visitors. People buy postcards from here and post with messages on them.
When DJ was ready to move from Komic, a monk requested him for a lift up to Kaza. DJ dropped him off at a junction from where Kaza city was walkable, and he proceeded towards the Key monastery. He managed to reach Key Monastery by 12:30 pm.
The key monastery has been constructed at the top of a hill and looks mesmerizing from any distance. When he reached the monastery, DJ saw little monks playing football. Although the monastery was not that big, it was certainly beautiful. After a few clicks, DJ continued his local journey and proceeded towards Khibber village.
4. KIBBER
Kibber village was about 7 km away from the monastery. The village was beautiful, and what’s more- it also had several restaurants. People often visit Kibber to have lunch and then head back to Kaza. DJ spent some time here and then headed back to Kaza, where he asked his caretaker for lunch.
Lunch was to be served in 30 minutes, and the DJ utilized the time to have a quick bath. He also got in touch with a friend who mentioned a bridge that should have been covered thus far. So, DJ had lunch and got ready again, this time to visit the Chicham bridge. This massive bridge was built by the PWD to cross a deep valley. DJ felt awestruck while imagining the amount of work possibly undertaken to build this structure. It is quite a beautiful structure and many people get themselves clicked here. DJ was lucky to take pictures of a group of girls here, and got himself clicked in return!
After the photo session, DJ returned to his room and took a rest. It was his last day in Kaza and requested the owner for some Spiti food. She obliged and prepared Thentu for dinner. He discussed the eventful day spent in Kaza over delicious Thentu and then, before sleeping, he got his Bullet refueled in Kaza.
