History of City Palace Jaipur Museum

Whenever we talk about City Palace, the first thing that comes to mind is the seat of kings which is famous for the king who has ruled the region for decades. This famous City Palace was built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh who is also the founder of Jaipur city. He created many monuments and buildings. Both Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar were parts of his creations only.

The main architects behind this glorious City Palace were Vidyadhar Bhattacharya Sri Samuel Sainton Jacob, and Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. In present, City Palace Museum is the best museum in Jaipur. It is a monumental complex that includes many buildings, a courtyard, and many gardens of Jaipur.

Architecture

his city palace has its own impact in terms of architecture and design. Chandra and Mubarak Mahal are the two main compounds of the architecture. The corridors of Chandra Mahal have unique royal courtyards and are designed elaborately. Pritam Niwas Chowk has beautifully decorated four seasonal doors. Here you can explore Mughal, Rajput as well as European architecture. The architecture is a fusion of Indian, Mughal, Rajput and even European styles. You can see the architectural glory in every compartment and corner of the palace.

The two main palaces in the confederacy are Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal. The main attraction in this place is the use of red and pink sandstones, as they enhance the beauty of this palace. The decorated gateways add exquisiteness and resplendence to the structure. This city palace is a great example of how architecture, art and creativeness can merge to form a marvelous heritage.

Construction of City Palace Jaipur Museum

This museum is divided into two parts. The first part of this museum is for the public and the second part is for the Royal family. Their descendants are still living here.

The most famous part of this palace has two silver jars. These are the largest silver vessels that have built a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

This place has three main gates that are Tripolia gate, Virendra Pol and Udai Pol. They also have four shorter gates in the third cluster. They are built to represent four seasons. When it comes to drawings, Mor Gate has a magical design and 3D models of peacocks which are crafted beautifully on the gate. The Lotus Gate symbolises summer intervals and the Leheriya Gate spring.

Winter gate is a rose gate. All these gates are decorated beside each other. Just a mere view of these gates is a sheer delight. Other than this, Pritam Niwas Chowk, Diwan-I-Aam, Diwan-I-Khas, Bhaggi Khana, Maharani Palace and Govind Dev Ji Temple are worth watching areas.

If you are an art lover then visiting City Palace will be an adventure for you. This is because this particular monument offers more, there is a lot that you can explore in this palace. City Palace displays Mughal and Rajasthani architecture and aristocratic, royal and traditional culture.

It is designed and embedded with large courtyards, jharokhas, balconies, archways, and cupolas. The exceptional mirror work, glasswork and paintings add feathers in its beauty and splendor.

Reaching Route, Timings, and Entry Fees

City Palace is 12 km away from Jaipur International Airport. You will easily get a taxi, auto or bus to reach the place. September to February months are considered the best time to explore City Palace. People ignore visiting it in the summer months due to the scorching heat and hot climate.

Entry Fee

For Indians- Rs 100 per person for exploring exterior places and Rs 130 for the museum.

For Foreigners- Rs 500 per person for exploring exterior places and Rs 900 for the museum.
