The country offers everything from aggravated historical stories to decades-old religious temples, becoming the famous religious places in India. It is also home to uncountable religious places, making it almost impossible to visit all of them. Most individuals visit a few of them that they consider suitable as per various parameters.

1. Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai (South India)

It is located on the banks of river Vaigai and was designed by professional builders. The beauty of this temple attracts around 15,000 people every day who pray here religiously. It is dedicated to goddess Meenakshi who was another form of goddess Parvati. The symbol of Meenakshi is the most important part of this temple as it was founded by King Indra when he was apologetic for his wrong deeds.

2. Golden Temple (Amritsar)

Golden Temple also known as Harmandir Sahib cannot be missed at any cost and it ought to be a part of this list. This temple is made of real gold and is very close to all Sikh hearts. It is among the most popular heritages of Punjab and marked as the holiest pilgrimage place for the Sikh community, though tourists from all over the world come here, consume ‘langar food’, and find peace.

The foundation of the Golden Temple was led by the fifth Guru Arjan Dev and the ‘Amrit Sarovar’ was chalked out by Guru Ramdas Sahib in 1577. The temple is also a treat for art lovers as it displays rare works of the craftsmanship of fine art by Sikh artists. All the doors, walls, domes, and panels have been embossed. You can come here to admire the art and find solace at the same time.

3. Shirdi Sai Baba (Maharashtra)

Shirdi Sai Baba is among the most popular Hindu temples. It is located 296 km away from Mumbai. Though Sai Baba was a Hindu god followers of all kinds of religions and castes came here to worship him. It’s a rare holy place where all Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and other religious communities gather to worship God and to pay respect to Sai Baba. Devotees gather daily at the Sai Baba temple complex to honor his legacy.

4. Vaishno Devi (Jammu & Kashmir)

Vaishno Devi, which is based in Jammu & Kashmir state, is another gem in the list of most visited holy places in the world. It is widely popular all over India and remains crowded throughout the year. The structure and art of this temple are marvelous. It is perched at an altitude of 5300 ft and people come here to see the beauty of this temple.

Followers come here with their families and relatives to worship Vaishno Devi.

It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi viewed the fight between Lord Rama and Ravana and prayed for the victory of Lord Rama from this hill, which is why the area is considered sacred and pious. The aura of this temple is really powerful, and people undertake long uphill walks and brave unstable weather conditions to get to their Mata Rani (Maa Vaishno Devi).

5. Tirupati Balaji (Andhra Pradesh)

Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh is a notable place because of the Tirumala Venkateshwara temple and its richness. Around 50 thousand to 1 lakh people visit this temple every year. The temple is situated at the 17th peak of Tirumala hill.

It is believed that this temple was constructed to save mankind from the trials and troubles of Kali Yuga. The temple is also known with other names like Tirumala Temple, and Tirupati Balaji.

Every year this temple has the largest crowd recorded and people come here to worship and make a wish by tying a ‘dhaga’.

6. Murugan Temple Palani

Murugan Temple Palani resides in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This temple is situated in the foothills of Palani hills in the Northwest of Madurai. Hindus have deep faith in this temple and it is known to be one of the most important pilgrimage places in India for Hindus. It is dedicated to the son of Lord Shiva and Lord Kartikeya.

Palani is in the north-western part of Madurai and 67 kilometers (42 mi) from Kodaikanal. The Palani Murugan temple or Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple (Thiru Avinankudi), dedicated to Lord Murugan is situated on a hill overlooking the town.
