During earlier days, traveling alone for a female was the toughest thing to do in a country like India. The fear of safety it brought was hard to deal with. Even in the present, some places don’t offer a safe environment for women travelers. However, things are not the same in many ways now and there are a fair number of women-friendly solo travel places in the country. Above everything, women are more aware of self-defense and thereby know how to be safe during the journey. They are getting over the fear and exploring the world alone as it’s the key to a happy life.

Certain important considerations can make female solo travel in India easier, and these have been covered in this article. After taking these precautions, you need not worry about traveling alone in India or any other country.

Is Traveling Alone Safe for a Women Traveler in India?

The answer to the above question is both yes and no. It depends on how you prepare for it.

Certain issues are well documented and you must not simply ignore them to think that you will never be affected. Of course, a woman may also be unlucky or can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The instructions given below will certainly help plan a future trip-

  • During travel please stay far away from alcohol or drunkards.
  • When you go out, always keep your mobile phones fully charged and keep your mobile in the first pocket in your bag or pocket. That way, if you end up in a troublesome situation you can call anybody trustworthy for rescue.
  • Carry a power bank. It is a wonderful thing to ensure you’ll never be left without the ability to call in any situation.
  • Always save the number and address of your hostel and the flat owner on your mobile in case you get in any trouble or you get lost somewhere. They will arrange a ride with a trusted local driver to pick you up. It is much safer than a strange driver or jumping into a passing cab.
  • Informing is another important thing. If you tell them that you are coming there they will arrange for your pick up and drop from the station/ airport in advance. Again your hostel might be able to help you in this tragic situation.
  • If you are traveling alone, you need to be strong and trust your gut feeling.
  • Travel in the daytime because night traveling is not safe for women, especially while traveling by bus or trains. Chances of mischief are far higher in the night due to less people.
  • Always get in touch with your family and make regular calls and talk to them or friends at a pre-arranged time.
  • Don’t leak any personal information. Nowadays, people nicely talk to you but their hidden agendas are far different and dangerous. So don’t take help from strangers even if they offer you a hand of help.

Nothing is risk-free but if you use your common sense and prepare for everything, you can travel alone everywhere, even if it’s an alien country. Of course, it also makes sense to keep learning from every trip you undertake.

Best Places to Visit in India for Solo Female Travellers

A young woman kayaks through the backwaters of Monroe Island in Kollam District, Kerala, South India.

If you have decided to travel alone then consider putting these places on your travel wishlist. Here are some of the amazing places:

1. Kerala

Kerala is among the most beautiful places in India where travelers come to enjoy their holidays. It is located in the southern part of India and is next to the Malabar Coast. Kerala as a whole is very green and picturesque, and every other city is worth visiting. You will find lush green fields and backwaters to roam around and houseboats to stay in. Kerala has a high female population which also makes it very safe. Try visiting places like Alleppey, Kochi, Trivandrum, Munnar, and Idukki.

2. Rishikesh

If you are a sunset lover then Rishikesh is the perfect place for you. It is one of the finest holy cities in India. You should definitely visit the city to see the scenic views of the sunset over the river Ganga. Here you can enjoy every moment with a hot cup of coffee on restaurant rooftops.

3. New Delhi

As we all know, Delhi is famous for old monuments. Many travelers visit here to see the beauty of old monuments and structures every year. This place is somewhat similar to Mumbai. The best monuments in New Delhi are The Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, and India Gate. If you are a fun-loving person or you like rides then you should try the Appu Ghar.

4. Hampi

Hampi is a must travel place as it is a World Heritage Site. Apart from visiting hundreds of ancient temples, you can also see spectacular views of sunset and sunrise.

These are some worthy places to visit for a solo female traveler. Along with them, consider visiting Varanasi, Mumbai, Karnataka, and Jaisalmer also.
