Tehri Garhwal is one of the most beautiful districts in Uttarakhand and is also one of the largest. The district is known for the confluence of two holy rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. History of Tehri Dam

In 888AD, the complete region was divided into 52 Garhs or Forts designed by different kings. The Malwa prince Kanakpal slowly overthrew the rulers their descendants at these Grahs and controlled the Garhwal kingdom for almost 1000 years after that. That’s how the word ‘Garhwal’ got attached to Tehri town.

The Tehri Dam is the tallest Indian hydroelectric dam. It receives its water from two rivers Bhagirathi and Bhilangana that flow from the Himalayas. The natural beauty and the dam’s architectural beauty together attract tourists from all over the world. Uttrakhand’s tour would be incomplete if you miss visiting this lake.
